Bruce is a graduate of Lee University, married for 31 years to his wife, Rhonda, father to 5 daughters and grandfather to three grandsons.
Bruce founded City of Refuge in 1997 with a desire to bring light, hope and transformation to one of Atlanta’s most difficult neighborhoods. Now, 21 years later, City of Refuge provides housing, medical, dental and vision care, mental health services, childcare, vocational training and placement programs and a host of other services to those marginalized in Atlanta. The organization serves the homeless, victims of domestic violence and those who have suffered sex trafficking and exploitation, along with those living in poverty in zip code 30314. More than 20,000 individuals have benefitted from the services offered by City of Refuge and the organization now has affiliate groups in more than a dozen locations around the United States as well as in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Bruce has been honored in many arenas ranging from private organizational honors to being recognized by the City of Atlanta, the Governor of Georgia, People Magazine, Major League Baseball and, most recently, as the FBI Director’s Community Impact award winner for 2017.
