In 1898 James M Cox borrowed $26,000 and purchased the Dayton Evening News to create “The People’s Paper”. In 1939, then Ohio Governor Cox purchased The Atlanta Journal and WSB radio setting a stake in the ground in Atlanta that remains today. Cox Enterprises, still privately held, employs around 55,000 employees in 300 separate businesses. In 2018 member Alex Taylor, great-grandson of Governor Cox became CEO of Cox Enterprises and has infused an even greater sense of purpose across the $21 Billion company.
